Ever since my first visit, Milos has been one of my favourite Greek islands. Milos has a beautiful landscape, amazing volcanic beaches, picturesque fishing villages and great restaurants.
📝 The best way to explore the Greek islands is by ferry. In summer ferry tickets can sell out quick so I recommend buying them ahead of time. The best website to book your tickets is on ferryhopper.com. I also find it useful to check ferry routes here.
📝 Everything is quite spread out. You’ll need a car to explore Milos properly. If you’re travelling in prime summer months then book this ahead of time as they can run out of vehicles.
📝 Beaches to explore; Sarakiniko Beach – a famous volcanic beach on the north of the island. Kleftiko Beach – a volcanic beach on the south of the island that you can get to via boat from Adamantas or car + 45 minute hike, Plathiena – a nice beach to the west, Paralia Paleochori – a popular beach on the south of the island.
📝 Where to stay? I usually stay in Adamantas. Olea Bay Hotel and Santa Maria Village are both comfortable and have nice pools.
📝 Watermleon pie is something you only really find on Milos so be sure to grab a slice from a local bakery.
1. Astakas
📍Klima. Definitely one of my favourite places to eat on the island. A seafood restaurant on the beach of a beautiful fishing village. Spend some time walking along the front of the village before you eat. Get a table just before sunset. One of the best dishes they do is the sea bass carpaccio.
2. O Hamos
📍Astakas. Right on the beach front. All the food is amazing. One of my favourite Greek salads.
3. Ergina’s Restaurant
📍Trypiti. Up in the hilltop village of Trypiti. Great food. The closest moussaka to my grandmas.
4. Avli-Milos
📍Plaka. A great restaurant in hilltop village of Plaka. It’s more about the meat dishes than fish here but try the prawn saganaki and slow cooked goat.
5. Phatses/Fatses
📍Plaka. Another good restaurant in the hilltop village of Plaka. Set in a beautiful square with live music. It’s more about the meat dishes than fish here.
6. Medusa
📍Mandrakia. Medusa is a seafood restaurant in the fishing village of Mandrakia. Spend a little time exploring both sides of the bay before dinner. Mandrakia is beautiful around sunset.
7. Taberna Empourios
📍Ebourios. This seaside restaurant is great but was a bit of pain to get to. Google Maps completely screwed us into almost destroying the rental car so had to abandon vehicle and hike the rest. Classic dishes done well. If you go to this this restaurant ignore Google, use your eyes, and look out for the sign (fifth pic) instead.
8. Gyros of Milos
📍Adamantas. The best (only?) gyros spot on the island.
9. Kivotos ton Gefseon
📍Pollinia. A popular bakery on the edge of Pollinia. Try the ladenia (a local bread topped with tomatoes & onions), watermelon pie and orange cake.
10. Mouros Bakery
📍 Katifora. A really good bakery in the middle of island so you can stop on the way to multiple destinations. Try the ladenia (a local bread topped with tomatoes & onions), watermelon pie and spanikopita.
11. Palaios Cafe & Pastry
📍Plaka. A lovely cafe in the heart of Plaka. Great coffees, Greek pastries & ice cream.
12. Artemis Bakery
📍Adamantas. A decent bakery in Adamantas if you need a quick pastry before the boat.
13. Plathiena Foodies Beach Bar
📍Plathiena. Beach bar on Plathiena beach. Good cocktails. Another good spot for sunset.
14. Utopia Cafe
📍Plaka. A beautiful spot for sunset. Book ahead or get there early.
15. Sirocco Volcanic Restaurant
📍Paleochori Beach. A nice beach restaurant for seafood. They’re known for cooking fish in the volcanic sand, which is a little gimicky and does nothing for the flavour if you ask me. Prices are on the slightly higher-end.
